CODE OF CONDUCT

A.    Athlete/Participant

 

 

I believe that the true essence of sport is to strive for personal achievement and excellence through full and honest effort. I am committed to participating in sport with integrity, and to striving to win only by legitimate means. I pledge to learn, understand, and adhere to both the written rules of my sport and the accepted rules of fair play. I believe that violence and physical intimidation are harmful to sport, and I refuse to use such tactics in an attempt to gain an unfair advantage. I understand that officials, teammates, and opponents are all integral to sport and worthy of my respect. It is my responsibility to maintain self-control. I will accept officials' decisions without arguments, play aggressively but without hostility, and behave graciously in triumph or defeat.

 

 

Respect for Coaches, Staff, Administrators, Officials & Others

 

  • I agree to act with respect toward all those I encounter at DFC and the sport of fencing.  This means I refrain from comments or behaviors which are abusive, offensive, racist, sexist or otherwise belittling or demeaning to others including other participants, staff, coaches and officials.

  • I refrain from use of profane, insulting, harassing or otherwise offensive language;

  • I do not harass or tolerate harassment by others.

  • I respect others as persons and treat them with dignity and respect the privacy of others.

  • I will refrain from any action or behavior that may be unsafe or that may cause danger or injury to others.

 

 

Respect for Self

 

  • I act with fairness and integrity in the pursuit of excellent sport. I practice drug-free sport and accept doping control.

  • I avoid the abuse of alcohol, illegal drugs or any substance that may in any way impair my ability to participate in the sport of fencing.

 

Respect for Sport

 

  • I strive for personal excellence in sport.

  • I honor and respect the spirit and traditions of sport.

  • I do not impede the preparation for competition of other competitors or teammates. I respect the decisions of judges and officials.

  • I promote drug-free sport.

 

Respect for Dynamo Fencing Club Inc.

 

  • I accept and adhere to DFC rules, policies and procedures governing the DFC facilities, training, events and competitions in which I participate;

  • I respect and comply with the reasonable requests of staff, coaches and officials of DFC.  I accept that I am an ambassador for Fencing and DFC;

  • I respect and will follow all reasonable annual DFC training and competitive programs and directions of the DFC staff, coaches, administrators and officials. 

  • I will refrain from any action or behavior that may be unsafe or that may cause danger or injury to others;

  • I refrain from any action which might bring the sport of Fencing or the DFC into disrepute.

 

Respect for Property

 

I respect the property and livelihood of others, which means refraining from vandalism, theft, and other forms of mischief.

 

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action in accordance with the Discipline Policy of DFC.  Such action may result in the member losing the privileges that come from membership in DFC including the opportunity to participate in DFC activities and suspension or expulsion from DFC.

 

 

B.    Coaches

 

  • Respect the rights and dignity of every person regardless of gender, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment, in which every person is protected and free from discrimination, harassment and abuse.

  • Ensure every person has equal opportunity to participate regardless of age, ability or experience.

  • Ensure that all equipment and activities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and abilities of every person.

  • Promote the principles of fair play and discourage foul play and/or unsporting behavior.

  • Always consider the safety and wellbeing of participants before performance and results and follow the advice of a physician/medical officer in determining when an injured participant may return to training and competition.

  • Maintain respectful and appropriate relationships with every person, especially to participants to which you owe a duty of care.

  • Never engage in inappropriate conduct including the use of offensive language, drinking or smoking, whilst in an official capacity

  • Ensure coaching qualifications are up to date and accredited by the appropriate sporting body. 

  • Follow the guidelines and rules set down by the organization and governing body.

  • Call out and refer to organization authorities all acts of unethical behavior, whether from players, officials, parents or spectators

  • At all times act as a role model for others, displaying high standards of good sporting behavior.

 

 

C.    Parents and Spectators

 

  • Never engage in inappropriate conduct including the use of offensive language, drinking or smoking whilst in the presence of junior participants or spectators

  • Encourage players to play by the rules and to show respect to coaches, officials, and opponents at all times.

  • Respect the rights and dignity of every person including players, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators; and never engage in behavior that abuses, demeans, provokes, or harasses others.

  • Understand that sport is designed to be fun and that participating for enjoyment and wellbeing should always come before performance and results. 

  • At all times act as a role model for others, displaying high standards of good sporting behavior. 

  • Call out and refer to organization authorities all acts of unethical behavior, whether from players, coaches, officials, parents or spectators 

  • Participate in positive cheering that reinforces and encourages participant efforts.

  • Respect and follow all DFC guidelines and rules and reasonable DFC annual training and competitive programs and directions of DFC coaches, staff, administrators and officials.

  • In the interest of safety and development, parents will refrain in active coaching during fencing and allow coaches to do their job and expertise.
